Melatonin
Melatonin is a hormone which naturally occurs in the body but declines as we age, it is used as a treatment for jet-lag, insomnia, etc. Melatonin acts to re-set the circadian rhythm or "inner clock" which controls our sleep/wake cycle. This is of great benefit to travellers and other people who get up in the morning, but are not fully awake until later in the day. Using melatonin, the sleep/wake cycle can be adjusted to allow optimum rest at night and optimum function in the daytime. Melatonin seems to have anti-aging effects and has been reported to have anti-cancer effects, probably through strengthening the immune system by re-establishing hormonal levels.
Dosage
: 3-9 mg one hour before the time you wish to go to sleep. The sub-lingual type of Melatonin is usually more quick to take effect.
Precautions
: Do not use while driving a car.
